Why the Center In Stewardship to Today’s Children

Over the past thirty years there has been a dramatic increase in the number of children who require special services due to learning, behavioral and emotional issues.

More and more children suffer from anxiety, phobias, stress and sleep disorders while spending less time in unstructured play at home, school and outdoors.

Parents are overwhelmed by multiple diagnoses (ADD, ADHD, PTSD, Asperger’s, LD, OCD – over 80 of them) and struggle to understand the conventional medical approaches with their pharmacological interventions and side effects.

Complementary medical alternatives address one specific need rather than an integrated therapeutic program which focuses on the whole child.

Educators find that current methodologies and training don’t offer enough viable solutions for today’s children with differentiated needs.

In March 2004, Shining Mountain Children’s Center, LLC was opened to provide health and educational services for neuro-typical and special needs children and young adults. Based on positive results, 4 years later, in January 2007, Shining Mountain Center for Peaceful Childhood, Inc. was incorporated as a not-for-profit company to provide scholarships to children with special needs who would not otherwise be able to attend the program.

The Goal of the Center is to serve as a partner with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers in order to foster a peaceful coexistence for children at home and in educational settings. We are committed to offering solutions which assist children to recognize their unique set of gifts, help them identify how to work through their challenges, and provide them with tools to enhance their well-being.

Our many years of experience shows that the use a of non-invasive, integrated, natural approach, over a four to six month period, helps children increase their levels of motivation, improves their academic, fine arts and sports performance, and encourages them to use new ways to communicate and connect with their families, peers and educators.

Parents play a critical role in Shining Mountain’s program; they attend all weekly sessions with their children and have the option to attend private sessions, lectures and retreats offered on and off site.

Albert Einstein once said, ”The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them” and at Shining Mountain Center for Peaceful Childhood we took his message to heart.

While other centers may provide individual sessions or workshops on topics such as: nutrition, Brain Gym®, compassionate communication or yoga, Shining Mountain integrates these with therapeutic modalities, such as color, sound, and essential oils. Our programs are of value to children and adults alike and provide each with tools for lifelong success.

Our Five Star Program©, designed specifically for elementary and secondary schools, allows us to bring our philosophy and a sample of our tools to public and private schools, summer schools and camps, after school programs and community centers. Once the children have learned these simple techniques, they continue on their own, for this program can easily be done without much space, time or supervision. Children feel the improvement in their lives, which reinforces their will to continue with the practice. At the Shining Mountain Center, we are committed to bringing the Five Star Program© to as many children as possible in the near future.
